Why Writing Out Your Prayer Requests Matters

Phil and Melody Box

Have you ever noticed how writing something down makes it more real? The same is true in prayer. Taking time to write out your prayer requests can transform the way you pray—and the way you connect as a couple.

Here are a few reasons why we encourage it:

  • Writing clarifies your heart before God. It helps you pray with focus and intention.
  • Writing builds faith. You’ll see how God answers prayer over time.
  • Writing encourages consistency. A written list helps you return faithfully in prayer.
  • Writing strengthens connection. When couples record prayer requests together, unity grows.

Jesus gave us a powerful promise that follows when two people pray together.

“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask,

my Father in heaven will do it for you.” — Matthew 18:19 (NLT)

While this is a general promise to any two people, what two people are better to pray over their needs in marriage and family than a husband and wife?

Start a prayer notebook to record your prayers, the Pray2Stay Guide that comes with the Couples Prayer Journal -– is a great tool to help you to build a permeant record of your prayers and answers!

As you  pray together, you’ll begin to experience greater unity, purpose, and peace. Your written prayer requests and answers will become a record of God’s faithfulness—one you’ll treasure for years to come.
