It builds intimacy, trust, unity, a deeper love for each other, among other things. There are many reasons that a couple doesn’t take time to pray together, and we want to encourage you today with some ideas and perspective that have completely changed what prayer together looks like for us— even through the chaos of life! |
| Why Do We Struggle to Pray Together? Let’s be honest—the world is loud, days are crowded, and time together feels almost an impossible dream. Life gets so busy that most of the time communication between the tow of you is all about schedules, kids, work and what has to be accomplished. Praying together gets pushed to tomorrow, and then the next day. The enemy wants nothing more than to sneak in and steal those moments that draw us closer to God and to one another. Five Simple Ways to Make Time—No Matter How Busy Life Gets Start Small—and Don’t Wait for Perfect If you have five minutes, use it! Even a quick prayer before leaving for work or after dinner counts. Don’t wait for an uninterrupted hour or it may never happen. Just grab each other’s hands pray together thanking God for His grace, provision, and help and listing the needs you have in a short list. Then ask for wisdom and His direction in these areas. After you say amen give each other a short kiss and off you go! This is a great way to start praying together. Set a Consistent Prayer Trigger Pick a time or trigger—like the end of each day, right after the kids are in bed, or during your daily drive together—and make it your non-negotiable prayer check-in. I have to set an alarm on my phone for just about everything! Set an alarm to go off 15 minutes after the kid’s bedtime and grab each other to pray. Be sure to set at least one time a week together to spend a lengthier time to pray together! |
Use Shared Notes or Apps
Technology can help rather than hinder. Share prayer requests in a note or use a devotional app—even sending a voice memo with
a prayer when you are burdened about something or feel the need to seek the Lord’s help.
Pray Out Loud, Even If It’s Just a Few Lines
So many couples never pray out loud with each other. They say that they get embarrassed or afraid won’t say things right. You are praying with the two people who have your back more than anyone else, God and your spouse! Who else can you you be yourself better than with them?
Give Each Other Grace
Life will still pull you apart sometimes. Instead of feeling guilty, just recommit—together. It’s not about perfection, it’s about persistence and growing together step by step. Many times, I am the one who fails to pause and pray together and Melody is always so gracious to never say things like, “It’s about time!”, or “I was wondering when we would pray again!”. She simply smiles and holds my hand, and we pray.
Just Start and Keep Consistent
Never underestimate what God can do in your marriage through tiny, faithful steps of prayer—especially on the most hectic days. We are praying for you this week.
